Sigma Xi Student Research Poster Symposium
Friday, April 26, 2019

Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society in science and engineering, is once again sponsoring a poster research symposium in conjunction with our annual membership reception. We encourage all graduate and undergraduate students doing a research project to talk to their mentor about presenting their work at this symposium.

Poster Registration

To participate, you must register your poster by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, by filling in this registration form (Word document format). Make a local copy of the form, fill in ALL required information, then email the completed form as an attachment to ryan.jorn@villanova.edu.

Poster Judging

Student posters will be judged by a multi-disciplinary team and the best posters will win a certificate and a cash award to cover their membership fee to Sigma Xi. The judging will focus on how well your poster communicates your research. Here is a sample of judging criteria.

Poster Requirements

If students have already presented a poster at a regional, national or international meeting, please present it at our meeting as well. Realizing that different societies require different formats, whatever format you used will be acceptable for our meeting. We provide the following guidelines for students who have not presented at other meetings.

Poster Size. A poster board 4 ft high by 6 ft wide will be available for displaying your poster. Your poster could be any size that fits within this space.

Poster Composition. The poster title should be at least ½ inch high across the top. The title should include: title of poster; the first and last name of the author(s), with student participants noted; followed by department and institution affiliation(s). Undergraduate author names should be superscripted by 'UG', and graduate names should be superscripted by 'G'. Author names without a superscript will be assumed professors. The poster composition should include an abstract of 200 words or less; a clear statement of the problem investigated; a short introduction to place the work in context with work in the field; brief materials and methods; results; conclusions; and a list of references.
