Cost and Esophageal Healing
Part 4 - Table 7
One hundred and eighty-four patients were allocated to one of two treatments (Treat) for
severe erosive esophagitis. The primary efficacy endpoint was the healing of all erosions as
determined by endoscopy after four and eight weeks of therapy. Patients who healed at four
weeks left the study and were assumed to still be healed at week 8. Cost data were also collected with respect to study drug and concomitant antacids as well as all non-protocol driven medical costs (i.e., physician visits, emergency room visits, treatment of adverse effects, procedures, etc.) from the prospective of a third party payor. Total costs are tabulated.
- Is the success of treatment influenced by baseline disease severity (Bs Sev)?
- Is there a significant difference in efficacy between the two drugs?
- Is there a significant difference in total cost between the two treatments?
- What are the effects of skewness and outliers in the cost data?
- What is the incremental cost-efficacy?
- Is there evidence of a statistically significant difference between the two treatment in cost-efficacy?
