Lab 0 – Setting Up for Computer Systems

Introduction

• In this lab you will get started with Unix and zyBook activities. You will test your Unix account by logging in and out, and use the zyBook account to start your first assignment activities.

Step 1 - Verify access your Unix account

1. Log in to your CS department Unix account following these instructions. Password algorithm: FA followed by your 8 digit VUID
2. Make a note to yourself someplace safe about how you successfully logged in. We may use some of the department's Unix or Linux machines at times this semester, and it will be important that you can login.
3. Report login success or failure to the instructor and have the instructor or TA initial here: _______
4. If you logged in, log out.

Step 2 – Get Familiar with the zyBook

1. Access your zyBook account by following these instructions.
2. Read section 1.1 “Computers and Programs” and complete all participation activities.
