Artificial Intelligence
Thurs 6:15 - 8:45, Mendel 156
Paula Matuszek, Robin McEntire

Grading and Assignments.

Grading will be based on:

25%: Assignments
25%: Midterm
25%: Final
25%: Project.

We will also use classroom participation as a factor if you're on the borderline.

Homework assignments. There will be roughly six to eight homework assignments. There will be some programming assignments, in Prolog, and some written assignments.

Exams: There will be a midterm and a final. They will cover primarily material from the book and from the lectures. You are responsible for all material assigned in the book, even if it is not covered in class.

Project. This will involve choosing a topic of interest in artificial intelligence. More detail next week.

Submitting Assignments Assignments should be submitted by emailing them to Note that this is not the normal contact address for Paula. Text assignments can be submitted as ASCII, RTF or Word 97 documents. If you use a more recent version of Word it's probably safest to save your file as RTF or Word 97 format, to ensure that you haven't used a feature that isn't supported by Word 97. Assignments which include screenshots or other graphics can be sent as jpegs, gifs, or Word 97 documents. If for some reason you need to use some other format, check with me first to be sure I can read it.

Please be sure that your assignment has your name somewhere within the assignment, not just in the email header. If you include attachments please be sure that each one has your name on it somewhere.

Assignment Due Dates: Assignments are due by 5PM on the due date listed, which will normally be a class night. We will take off 25% for assignments which miss the deadline but arrive by midnight the following Saturday. After the following Saturday we won't accept them; it's just too chaotic to be getting new assignments after we've graded and commented on them. We will use the timestamp of arrival in Paula's mailqueue as authoritative.
