Summer 2008 HighlightsMagic School Mini Camp - June 26, 2008Teenagers involved with the Science & Theatre Magic Program since 2005 (some of whom are now about to start college!) participated in this day of outreach to the Philadelphia community. The students attended the program on June 26 and together they led educational activities for a group of twenty five children from the Christy Recreation Center in West Philadelphia.
Shepard Recreation Center – Teen Center Camp visit to Villanova University July 15, 2008PIVOTS welcomed twenty four teenagers enrolled in the Philadelphia Department of Recreation teen center camp at the Shepard Recreation Center (57th & Haverford Avenue). The visit included a campus tour, an overview of student life at Villanova, and a computer lab session where participants learned how to create animations using the Alice programming language.The Summer 2008 events were organized through the PIVOTS ongoing partnership and collaboration with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation and were co-sponsored by the Villanova Department of Computing Sciences, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, The Center for Multicultural Affairs, The College of Engineering and Dining Services. |

The Science & Theatre Magic Program is a three-week summer institute for teenagers sponsored by Villanova University in partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation, with generous assistance from the Academy of Natural Sciences and generous financial support from The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), and the Wachovia Foundation.
