Course Description: The course is intended to provide graduate students with an in-depth examination into several of the design and implementation issues in single-machine and distributed operating systems, including the concept of "process," management and scheduling of processes and system resources, management of file systems and security, and the concept of "deadlock." Note that this course will focus on the theory behind OS's, and will refer to case studies from existing OS's only to make the theory more accessible.
