Performance measures for interconnection networks
Bandwidth (Raw bandwidth)
--- the number of megabits
the network can propagate per second
Includes headers, trailers!
--- the time needed for a bit to travel between the 2 nodes
Includes the delays due to repeaters/switches
When there are no delays, this is 2*(distance / speed of light)
--- message size / bandwidth
--- time of flight + transmission time
--- the time needed for the sender to inject (the first bit of)
the message into the network
Longer than sender overhead!
