xmascard 94: credits
- A lot of big issues on the plate this year to chose from. Hillary Clinton gets creamed
by Congress and the health care industry's money. Newt Gingrich and the Republicans were
hot news. As if the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund hadn't already done
enough damage, GATT was arriving. Italy won the World Cup Soccer Championships. But closer
to home...
- a 1972 Lincoln Mark IV, burgandy with a white vinyl top, the drbobmobile since 1977, is
eugenicized (put to death) by government bureaucracy.
- Bob, meanwhile escaped such a serious termination, but is plagued by a series of body
part malfunctions, the most serious of which is a tingling numbness that attacked his
buttocks and feet. 6 weeks after taking a very strong antibiotic Floxin for a urinary
tract infection that he probably picked up at the beach south of Rome the day before
flying back home. And the rotator cuff problem was no fun either. And his contacts just
weren't working anymore. But the cuff improved through therapy and a change of contact
style solved the vision thing. The butt thing went away and the soles of the feet remained
as the only long term casualty together with the next to last little toe on bob's left
foot. A little strange still.
- The free samples of Voltaren taken at the initial stages of the tingling later reveals
its own effect after a really uncomfortable colonoscopy and endoscopy turn up stomach wall
damage the following spring, triggering IBS as well. The GI man just suggests taking
antacid drugs indefinitely. bob gives this a try for a while but then decides nutritional
changes might terminate this ridiculous cycle. They eventually do, no thanks to modern
medicine.
- More more bilingual cards. just not enough time or space anymore to try to fit it in.
Probably the cards weren't getting understood in Italian anyway, since bob's sense of
humor is a bit twisted and too Americentric.
- manic depressive disorder finally claims the life of one of bob's closest academic
friends.
