Computer Networks and Open Systems,
A Top-Down Approach
Lillian N. Cassel
and
Richard H. Austing
This book looks at computer networks as a platform for application development.
By "top down" we mean we give primary emphasis to the application-oriented
layers of
network protocol stacks and treat the lower layers as necessary support
structures. We treat the Internet (TCP/IP) and the OSI approaches to Open
Systems networking. We stay out of the politics and style differences between
the groups and focus
on the problems involved in developing cooperating applications
over heterogeneous networks and contributions to solving those problems.
