Far UV Spectroscopy of Hot White Dwarfs: Helium Transfer Cataclysmics

Sion and J-E. Solheim (Tromso, Norway) have carried out IUE high resolution observations and analysis of helium transfer cataclysmics and their relation to the genesis of single helium-rich white dwarfs. Many pulsational and photometric characteristics suggest a link between the accreting central object in AM CVn systems and single DB and DO white dwarfs. DOs(DBs). Further progress requires the large mirror of HST. Their cycle 5 HST project has just begun.
