CSC 2025 Web Development & Technologies II

Course Description:
This course sequence will provide an in depth and broad coverage of the web technology and will cover
the necessary concepts and tools to design, develop and maintain web applications ranging from a simple
web presence, to solving mid-range complex problems.
The CSC 2025 is the second part of this course sequence and its main focus
will be the server side technology.
We will start with a brief review of XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript,
the Document Object Model and the JavaScript Events; then cover the details
of a web server configuration and setup (Ch17).
We will learn the basic concepts of creating, using and maintaining a database,
and interacting with its tables (Ch18).
The server side technology coverage will include SSI, Perl, PHP (Ch19).
Other topics such as AJAX (Ch16), HTML5 WebSockets and Web Workers (Ch29),
web application security will also be part of the
lectures and labs.
Each class will be conducted as
a lecture followed by a short lab session designed to experience and apply the acquired knowledge.
There will be two tests, three short quizzes, several homeworks and a
major web site design project.
Each student will also find, investigate and
present to the class a web tool that may be used to enhance a site
usage or functionality.

Make-up Test Policy :
No missed test without prior excuse.
Make-up test will be harder. Unexcused missed tests are counted as zero.
Punctuality points are deducted for projects and homeworks submitted after the due date.
